Cowboy Bebop was a business success in Japan and in the whole world, including with the Americas, in Europe and in other areas of Asia. Sony Pictures diffused the film Cowboy Bebop with the cinema under the name of Cowboy Bebop - Knockin' one Heaven' S Door , followed by an exit DVD. The series was diffused in France on Canal+, in the United States on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim and on Animax in Japan, in East Asia, South Asia Is, in South Asia, Latin America and in several other countries. Two series of manga Cowboy Bebop were created, based on the televised series, as well as Video games on PlayStation and PlayStation 2.

Cowboy Bebop is strongly influenced by the American culture, in particular by the movement Jazz Bebop of the Années 1940, 1950 and 1960. The majority of the scenes of action, of the space battles to the combat of Martial arts, are synchronized with the music. The music is the common point with many elements of the series. The episodes are called sessions (in reference to the musicians playing a " jam session") and their titles are drawn from names of albums or songs (for example Sympathy for the Devil ) or refer to a style of music (for example Jupiter Jazz ) which will influence all the episode.

Synopsis

In 2071, the crew of the spaceship Bebop travels in the Solar system in the search of premiums. In the slang of the time, these bargain hunters are called " Cowboys". The majority of the episodes turn around a premium; however, the center of the history relates to the past of each character and old more general events, which are connected as the series progresses.

The first history is that of Spike Spiegel, former member of an criminal organization, the Dragons Red, which is haunted by a triangle in love that he knew with his former fellow-member with the Red Dragons, Vicious, and a mysterious named woman Julia.

The second history turns around Faye Valentine, an involved in debt and amnesic player awaked of a cryogenic sleep , whose past is a mystery.

The other characters have also a past to explore: Jet Black, a former officer of the interplanetary agency of police force ISSP and owner of the vessel (Bebop), Edward, a young person hacker exceptionally gifted and hyperactive, and Ein, a " dog data" escaped of a laboratory, having a higher intelligence but behaving most of the time like a normal dog.

In the year 2021, a series of gates of circular form allowing of the voyages in Hyperespace was built through the solar system and made possible the space flight. Unfortunately, the scientists who had worked out it were unaware of that the network of these " Gates" was dangerously unstable. Instability worsened until one Gate close to the Ground explodes, releasing a wave of very powerful energy which split the the Moon. In a known cataclysmic disaster under the name of " the incident of Gate" , of the remains of the devastated Moon were crushed on the Earth, destroying the majority of its surface. It was a true catastrophe; nearly 4,7 billion people lost the life there. The remains not having never ceased raining, the majority of the Land remainders live now under ground. Although a considerable number people refused to leave, or does not have the means of them, a vast majority of Land left planet after the incident of Gate, and the human ones dispersed in the solar system, alive in colonies on Venus, Mars, some livable Astéroïde S, the moons of Saturn, the the moons galiléennes of Jupiter, and on space stations. The total population of the solar system in 2071 is only 1,5 billion inhabitants.

Many a craters of Mars was transformed and arranged into prosperous metropolises intended for an easy population. Venus was colonized thanks to the oxygen provided by plants to floating oxygen in the atmosphere; this process is however not perfect because the spores of these plants cause, at certain people, a disease called " badly of Vénus". If it is not treated, the disease can cause blindness or death, and the suitable treatment is excessively expensive. The many Jupiter moons, like Callisto, Io and Ganymède, were also colonized with more or less of happiness. Callisto is the dull, cold and inhospitable moon (with the town of Blue Crow, exclusively populated men), whereas the surface of Io is a vast volcanic desert with the toxic atmosphere. Ganymède, as for it, almost only consists of water and is known for its fishing industry. Titan, the largest Saturn moon, is a sterile desert where a war in the years 2060 was held (certain veterans survived the Second War of Titan of 2068 such as Vicious, Gren and Vincent Volaju). A Penitentiary of the Solar system was established with Pluton and certain asteroids were colonized for their minerals and others natural resources.

Following the explosion of Spoils, the system of premiums in force at the time of the Conquête of the West was restored by the government, become unstable and fragile, in order to always reduce the rate of criminality growing. The bargain hunters are encouraged to capture the criminals and to give them to the authorities (alive and unscathed) in exchange of a reward. In parallel, the criminal organizations gain influence in the solar system, thanks to the Corruption, with the Meurtre S, the Extorsion, the drug trafficking (like the Red Eye), with the Money laundering and others Délit S. the Woolong is the currency universal Monnaie. The tickets became rarer and the use of monetary charts and the transactions numerical became the standard.

In the universe of Cowboy Bebop , technology somewhat evolved/moved in order to adapt to the life with the 21e century in the solar system. With the generalization of the hyperspatiaux voyages between Gates, of many spaceships were created. The majority are single-seat vessels whose cockpit can be ejected and sail independently. The navigation system of the majority of these vessels is known under the name of " Machine Operation Navigation off Outer Space" or more simply " MONO". Certain medical innovations, such as the artificial bodies and the cryogenic sleeps, were controlled and are now used frequently. Entertainment in residence called " Catch" alpha; provides an intelligent interface to capture or project images, plays and films. The plays with virtual reality became current and the old material, for example the video-cassettes (VHS or beta), is relegated to the statute of Antiquité. Lastly, Internet, formerly known under the name of World Wide Web (WWW), evolved/moved to become the Solar System Web (SSW).

Longevity and famous

In 1998, Cowboy Bebop received the price of the best televised series of animation to the Animation Kōbe.

In September 2006, the magazine of Japanese origin Newtype the USA carried out a survey in order to establish the " 25 the best animate of all times " ; Cowboy Bebop arrived second in a classification including Mobile Follows Gundam and Evangelion .

Today, that is to say eight years after its creation, the series is always diffused on the programming Adult Swim of Cartoon Network.

History

In the Japan, the series Cowboy Bebop failed not to be diffused on television because of its violence. It was sent the first time to TV Tokyo, one of the principal distributers of animates in Japan. However, at the time, in 1995, there was a controversy on sexuality and violence in animate because of Evangelion . Initially, only episodes 2,3,7 to 15 and 18 were diffused, of the April 3rd to the June 19th 1998, on TV Tokyo. Later this same year, the series was entirely diffused October 23rd with the April 23rd 1999 on the satellite chain WOWOW. The whole series was diffused in Japan by the chain of animates, Animax, which also diffused it on its chains in South Asia East, South Asia, East Asia, Latin America and in other areas. Cowboy Bebop was enough popular to allow the realization of a feature-length film, Cowboy Bebop: Tengoku No Tobira ( Knockin' one Heaven' S Door ), diffused in Japan in 2001 and the United States under the name of Bebop Cowboy: The Movie in 2003.

In 2001, Cowboy Bebop was the first animates with being diffused in the programming Adult Swim of Cartoon Network in the United States. It had a success such as it continued to be diffused until today. This success opened the way with the many ones animates mature, like Inu-Yasha , Lupin III , Trigun , Blue Gender , Fullmetal alchemist , FLCL , Witch Hunter Robin , Samurai Champloo , Wolf' S Rain , and even Evangelion , that the Japanese initially found infamous.

In France, Cowboy Bebop was diffused at the time of the summer 2000 on Canal+.
In Israel, Cowboy Bebop was diffused during the years 2001 - 2002 on the programming of night of Bip.
With the the United Kingdom, Cowboy Bebop was diffused in 2003 and was one of the series most appreciated on the chain of cartoons for adults, CNX.
In Germany, Cowboy Bebop was diffused during the years 2003 - 2004 on MTV.
In Spain, Cowboy Bebop was diffused at the time of the summer 2006 on the send-out Cuatroesfera night of Cuatro.
With the Canada, Cowboy Bebop is finally programmed to make its beginnings on the young chain for adults Razer the December 27th 2006.
In Poland, Cowboy Bebop was diffused several times on Hyper and TVP Kultura.

Bandai published a Video game Cowboy Bebop of the kind Shoot them up with the Japan on PlayStation in 1998. Another play left on PlayStation 2 to the Japan, and the english language version intended for North America was planned for the first quarter 2006; however, in June 2006, its exit was cancelled.

In 2005, seven years after its first diffusion in Japan, Cowboy Bebop was finally laid off and diffused on the European market by Beez, a subsidiary company of Bandai Entertainment.

The series was created by " Hajime Yatate ", a collective pseudonym for the members of the team of Sunrise, the studio of animation which also developed Mobile Follows Gundam , The Big O , Outlaw Star and Vision of Escaflowne . Cowboy Bebop was carried out by Shinichiro Watanabe, also realizer of Macross Plus , Samurai Champloo and of the two short films a History of detective and the History of Kid for Animatrix and of animated representing the genesis of O-Ren Ishii in the Kill Bill Volume 1 of Quentin Tarantino. Influences

The influences of Cowboy Bebop many and are varied.

Cowboy Bebop is strongly influenced by the Chinese Culture: red Dragons (Chinese Dragon) with the techniques of Martial arts and philosophy of Spike (Jeet Kune C), while passing by many the Chinatown present on Mars and another planets.
Cowboy Bebop is very strongly influenced by the American Culture: by the cinema, including the films of horror, the black films and the Western S, and by the music Jazz like that of the nightclub of Harlem in the Years 1940. The authors refer to it as Space Jazz - in opposition to the Space Opera, although there exist many similarities between the two kinds - probably for its with dimensions lighter, because there is more humor than in Space Opera, often making fun of this last.
Cowboy Bebop is marked by Bruce Lee, its Philosophie of combat and by its films of Martial arts. The style of combat of Spike, the Jeet Kune C, is directly inspired by Bruce Lee. Also, the name of the premium in the second episode names Abdul Hakim , inspired of film of Bruce Lee the Play of dead the in which Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the d'" role played; Hakim". Twice, Spike mentions Enter the Dragon and the Fury of the dragon , two other films of Lee. Moreover, when he learns how in Rocco Bonnaro to fight in Waltz for Venus , he recites his philosophy composed almost exclusively of quotations of Bruce Lee. In before last episode ( The Real Folk Blues Leaves. 1 ) outside the hospital or Jet is looked after, a poster of Bruce Lee is hung.
the character of Spike was strongly influenced according to the authors by the Japanese actor Yusaku Matsuda in the televised series and the films Tantei Monogatari . It is of Matsuda that Spike inherited its its single physique and haircut.
As the title of the series suggests it, the westerns are a major influence of Cowboy Bebop . As in the majority of the westerns, the main characters are wandering and independent with a personal morals, the weapon of choice of the majority of the dramatic scenes is the revolver, and the episodes often turn around the codes of honor and the concept of morality. These influences are even more explicit in the resemblance between Spike and the Homme without name, a cowboy bargain hunter played by Clint Eastwood in the Trilogie of the dollar of Sergio Leone, an emission in the series entitled Big Shot which presents the premiums of the day and whose presenters are disguised in cowboy and one of the funniest antagonists of the series, Cowboy Andy, a cowboy/very naive and boasting bargain hunter who contrasts with the cowboy antihero darker than is Spike.
According to the notes of the designer of the vessels of the series, Kimitoshi Yamane, the MONO vessel of Spike, the Sword Fish II , was inspired by the bomber-destroyer S British during the Second world war, the Fairey Swordfish. Fairey Swordfish makes even a caméo in the film Cowboy Bebop , and a dialog refers to the shipwreck of the Bismarck (Fairey Swordfish were crucial in the shipwreck of Bismarck). A rumor of fan supposes that the Sword Fish II is based on the Swordfish , an experimental plane in the series of Edgar P. Jacobs, Blake and Mortimer , although the creators did not confirm it.
Of many episodes of Cowboy Bebop makes winks with films, such as 2001, the odyssey of space , The Crow , Alien - the eighth passenger , Star Trek , Moonraker , Dirty Harry , of films of Wong Kar-wai, John Woo and Blaxploitation.

the character of Jet Black draws his name from the beater of the British group Stranglers; however, the first title of their first album, left in 1978, names " Tank" , just like the credits of opening of animate.

Manga

Both mangas were published in Japan by Kadokawa shoten, serialized in Japan by Asuka Fantasy DX and were published in France by Pika Edition.
