Amanita virosa

The Amanita virosa (Amanita virosa) is a mortal Champignon of the family of the Amanites.

Characteristics

Entirely white, the hat (up to 8-10 cm) is white often dissymmetrical and of irregular form. The blades are white, the foot slim and fluffy can measure 10 to 15 cm length for 1,5 to 2 cm in diameter. The bulbous foot is equipped with a membranous and fragile white ring thus often torn. At the base of the foot is the membranous volva, in the shape of bag. The amanita virosa pushes in forest of the summer at the end of the autumn rather under conifers, but sometimes also under leafy trees (birches).

Syndrome phalloïdien

The amanita virosa is mortal , as poison as the Death cap, its ingestion involves the same symptoms, because the toxic substance is the same one: the Amanitine.

Only one specimen of intermediate size is enough to kill a man.

The symptoms appear after one long period of latency. Between 8 and 12 hours after ingestion appear strong nauseas, violent gastric pains, diarrheas, and vomiting. Then 6 days after ingestion the 2nd stage of the intoxication is declared which is a destruction of the liver.

Possible confusions

  • Amanita virosa with the citrine Amanita: (white variety) the citrine amanita has an odor of radish, or believed potato, that the amanita virosa does not have at all.
  • Amanita virosa with agarics: Agarics have pink blades , the amanita virosa is entèrement white.
