Altun ha
Altun ha , name which means " the rock of the égang " in Maya Yucatèque, being in margin of the Maya world is a site, known for the discovery carried out by the archeologists of almost 300 objects of Jade.
Rare fact, the temple also contained a Maya book also called Codex whose paper had disintegrated, but of which the painted surface of Stuc was of pieces. More the jade beautiful piece was found in the temple with the " furnace bridges maçonnés" , which is the highest structure of the site. In 1968, whereas the archeologists excavated a tomb located in this temple, they fell on a large head carved in sculpture in the round from Kinich Ahau, the god sun of the Maya. Weighing a good weight (4 420 kilograms), it is the heaviest Maya object out of jade that one discovered until today.
The inscriptions provided the proof that, paradoxically, although located at the south of the Belize, Altun ha belonged to the confederation of Tikal much more located at north. It is thought that the men of Tikal arrived there in boat. A sovereign of Altun ha named “water volute” attended the ceremonies with Nim Li punishes while being itself vassal of Tikal. According to the archeologist Wankerya, Altun ha was even an important member of the alliance led by Tikal.
