Alliance universal Jew

The Alliance universal Jew = AIU ( כלישראלחברים = כי " ח ), is a cultural international Jewish company, installed in various countries. It is founded in 1860 in France, following the bloody events Antisémite S which strike the Jewish community of Damas in 1840, and with conversion forced with the Christianisme of the child Juif Edgard de Mortara into 1858.

Public personalities and French Jewish thinkers then decide to bring their assistance to the Jews of the world, in order to fight against anti-Jewish hatred. They decide on funds financier of support, create many jobs and fight for the equal rights of the Jews in the world. Adolphe Crémieux is the first president of Alliance, function which it will fill until his death in 1880.

Alliance especially will be made known by opening schools in many countries, in particular in the Moslem countries. These schools aim at providing an education " moderne" , with the French standards, with local Jewish youth, but are also opened with not-Jews.

At its beginnings, Alliance maintains a very ambiguous report/ratio vis-a-vis the project Sioniste, and preaches the expansion of the language and the culture Frenchwomen within the Jewish communities of the Diaspora. On the initiative of Charles Netter, member of the central council of Alliance, the latter founds the agricultural school of Mikvé-Israel in 1870 in Palestine. Thereafter, it creates many popular schools in the countries of the Eastern communities and in Ground of Israel. Its activity becomes strong extensive at the conclusion of the First World War, when Alliance organizes the assistance with the Jews of Poland in 1919, and with those of Russia, victims of the devastations of the famine in 1922.

In Palestine, Alliance opens popular schools with Jerusalem, Haïfa, Tibériade and Tel-Aviv, as well as a school for deaf person-and-dumb men. In 1950, these schools and Mikvé-Israel pass under the responsibility of the minister of education of Israel. Alliance continues however the financing of these teaching institutions.
