Alkmaar

Alkmaar is a city of the Netherlands, in Holland-Septentrional, in the area of Western Plank.

The commune is consisted of the cities, villages and/or districts: Alkmaar, Koedijk (partially), Oudorp and Omval.

The general Brune beat the Russo there - Britanniques, ordered by the duke of York, the October 18th 1799, and signed there the Convention of Alkmaar.

It is also the fatherland of Henri d' Alkmaar.

Market

A market with cheeses, universally known, is held every Friday, and shows a traditional sale of cheeses there as it was held at the 14th century.

AZ

Alkmaar is the seat of the team of AZ, resulting from fusion in 1967 of the two professional football clubs Alkmaar' 54 and FC Zaanstreek.
