Ali Ahmeti

Ali Ahmeti (born the January 4th 1959) is a politician Macedonian, president of the party albanophone Bashkimi Demokratik për Integrim (democratic Union for integration). The BDI was member of the government coalition until the parliamentary elections of 2006.

Ahmeti is the former spokesperson of the armed uprising albanophone in Macedonia, the Army of national release of Macedonia (UÇK-M) and had for this reason been shown of terrorism by the government Macedonian.

In 1979, Ahmeti begins studies of philosophy at the University of Pristina and in graduate fate in 1983. Between 1981 and 1983, it is one of the leaders of the movement studied in Kosovo asking more rights for the minority albanophone Kosovo. Ahmeti is arrested and imprisoned during one year following these demonstrations.

Between 1984 and 1986, Ahmeti creates networks albanophones in Kosovo, and more particularly in the student's mediums. It obtains the political statute of refugee in Switzerland in 1986 and settles there until 2001. In 1988 - 89, it Co-organizes the manifestations of the minors and the students against the government of Slobodan Milošević. It structure the Albanian diaspora in Western Europe to support the fight for independence as a member of the directory of the national movement of Kosovo (elected in 1988) and member of the council of the national movement for the release of Kosovo .

In 1993, Ahmeti obtains capacities extended in the military apparatus of the national movement .

In 1996, Ahmeti takes part in the foundation of the Armée with release of Kosovo (UÇK) and in 1998, he is elected with the district-general of the UÇK.

In 2001, Ahmeti is elected supreme commander and representing Armée with national release of Macedonia (UÇK-M). Following the Agreements of Ohrid signed in August in order to restore peace, the UÇK-M dissolves and Ahmeti integrates the political process of effective installation of the agreements. It creates and takes the direction of the council of coordination which gathers all the parties albanophones of Macedonia as well as the remainders of the guerilla of the UÇK-M.

In June 2002, Ahmeti founds the Bashkimi Demokratik për Integrim (democratic Union for integration). At the time of the legislative ones of September 2002, the BDI is essential like the representative of the minority albanophone in Macedonia and Ahmeti obtains a seat at the Parliament. The BDI belongs to the coalition with the social democrat Union of Macedonia and takes part in the government; but the shortly after the elections of 2006, the BDI is excluded from the coalition to the capacity, and its deputies decide, on January 26th, 2007, to boycott the Parliament.
