Alfred Dreyfus

Alfred Dreyfus (Mulhouse, October 9th 1859 - Paris, July 12th 1935) was a French officer Juif of Alsatian origin . Shown, then condemned for treason before being pardoned, then rehabilitated, it was in the middle of a social conflict and political major of the III {{E}} République, called the Affaire Dreyfus.

Biography

The last of the 9 children of Jacques Dreyfus, industrialist, and Rachel Katz, it was born the October 9th 1859 with Mulhouse. Alfred Dreyfus passes his childhood in the family home street of the Savage.

In 1872, its family chooses French nationality and leaves the Alsace for Paris. After the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine by the Germany in 1871, the inhabitants have the possibility of choosing between French nationality or allemande. It enters to the Polytechnic school in 1878, becoming officer of artillery, and with the École of War in 1890.

The same year, he marries Lucie Hadamard (August 23rd 1869 - December 14th 1945), of an easy family of diamond cutter. They have two children, Pierre Dreyfus (April 5th 1891 - December 28th 1946) and Jeanne Levy Dreyfus (February 22nd 1893 - April 30th 1981).
