Alexandre VIII

Alexandre VIII (in Latin Alexander VIII , in Italian Alessandro VIII ), born Pierre Ottoboni (April 22nd 1610 - 1 {{er}}   February 1691). “Poenitentia gloriosa” in the Prophecy of Saint Malachie.

Venetian, it was Pape October 6th 1689 with the 1691.

Biography

It was wire of Marco Ottoboni, Chancelier of the République of Venice and belonged to a noble family of this city. For his education the future pope benefitted from all that its richness and its social position could bring to him. After brilliant studies with the Université of Padoue, where in 1627, it obtained the Doctorat in right gun and Civil law, it went to Rome, under the Pontificat of Urbain VIII (1623 - 1644) and was made governor of Tarnished, Rieti and Spolète. During fourteen years it was useful like listener with the Court of Rote.

Wire of family, it was made cardinal at the request of the République of Venice by Innocent X the February 19th 1652, then accepted évêché of Brescia, in Venetian territory, where it lived quietly. He condemned various proposals heretics among which doctrines known as “of the philosophical Péché” (August 24th 1690).

It was an honest, generous, peaceful and lenient man. He sought to help the poor by reducing the Impôt S. But its too great kindness pushed it with the Népotisme: it named cardinal its Pietro nephew ten eight years old, its Marco nephew was made duke of Fiano and his Antonio nephew placed at an important station. He in addition restores sinecures removed by his predecessor.

He canonized holy Jean de Capistran (1690) and holy Jean of God (October 16th 1690)
