Alcatel
Alcatel is a company born in France, old equipment supplier in Télécommunications (i.e. it conceives and manufactures of the equipment of telecommunications.) which amalgamated with Lucent Technologies to become Alcatel-Lucent in the month of October 2007.
Alcatel is the world leader of the market of the equipment of access DSL and in the optical networks. It is also one of the world leaders in the supply of telephone switches, of the routers ATM and IP, of the underwater transmission cables, the mobile infrastructure (GSM, GPRS, UMTS), of the applications of intelligent networks, the applications of Center of Call, the video applications (fixed and mobile) as well as satellites and embarked loads.
Alcatel provides also services to all its customers since the design of networks until the exploitation of those while passing by the deployment, integration and the installation.
In 2005, Alcatel is present in more than 130 countries, with a turnover of 13,1 billion euros.
Alcatel is signatory of the Pacte SME.

May 31st, 1898 - Creation of the General Company of Electricity ( CGE ) by Pierre Azaria, with Charles Herbault as president and Pierre Azaria as managing director. The ambition is to compete with company such as AEG, Siemens or General Electric.

1984 - Georges Pébereau becomes president of CGE.
1985 - the Alsthom-Atlantic takes the Alsthom denomination.
Fusion CIT-Alcatel-Thomson Telecommunications, the new business taking the name of Alcatel.
1986 - Constitution of Alcatel NV following the agreement concluded with ITT Corporation which yields its telecommunications activities to CGE. (German subsidiary company, SALT: Standard Electrik Lorenz - subsidiary Belgian, Beautiful)

1987 - Privatization of CGE.
Alsthom takes part in the equipment of Atlantic network TGV and takes the head of the consortium of companies French, Belgian and English in charge of the northern network of the TGV.
Sale of the software firm Sesa to the group Cap Gemini Sogeti
1988 - Alliance Alsthom/General Electric Company (GEC).
Regrouping of the activities of Alsthom and division “Power Systems” of GEC within a common company.
1989 - CGE-General Agreement Electric Company and birth of GEC-Alsthom.

1993 - Acquisition of STC Submarine Systems, a division of Northern Telecom Europe (today Nortel).
1995 - Serge Tchuruk becomes general President-director of Alcatel Alsthom. He undertakes to reorganize the company to center it on the Télécommunications.
1998 - Alcatel Alsthom takes the Alcatel denomination. Acquisition of the company DSC, strongly established near the American operators
Marketing of GEC ALSTHOM which becomes Alstom. Alcatel preserves 24% of the new business.
Alcatel sells Cegelec in Alstom.
1999 - Acquisition of the american companies Xylan, Packet Engines, Assured Access and Internet Devices, specialized in the networks and solutions for the Internet.
Alcatel carries its participation in Thomson CSF in 25,3% and reduces its participation in Framatome to 8,6%.

April 2006 - Alcatel and the American Lucent Technologies announces their fusion, giving rise to one of the world leaders of the infrastructures of telecommunications.
Acquisition of the space activity and satellites of Alcatel by Thalès: against a rise of Alcatel with 21,6% in its capital, Thalès recovers the participation of the 2/3d' Alcatel in Alcatel Alenia Space and that of the 1/3d' Alcatel in Telespazio. The complementary shares remain held by Finmeccanica.
December 1st, 2006 - the purchase of Lucent Technologies by Alcatel becomes effective, under the name Alcatel-Lucent. Patricia Russo becomes Managing director of the group, Serge Tchuruk becomes Chairman of the board - nonexecutive President.
