Alberto Juantorena , born the December 3rd 1950 with Santiago of Cuba, is a Athlète Cuba in, running on 400m and 800m
Called El Caballo (“the horse”), it becomes, after its first Olympic Games disputed in 1972 with Munich, world number 1 of the 400 m as from 1974.
In 1976, at the time of the Olympic Games of summer of 1976 with Montreal, it launches out in a formidable bet: to double the distances from the 400 m and the 800 m, and this in spite of a double operation with the left foot. It gains the 800m first of all, beating the world records into 1 at the same time ' 43" 50. Then, 4 days later, it gains the 400m, becoming thus the only athlete of the history of the Olympic Games to being crowned over 400 and 800 Mr.
Very attached to its country, it always associated its exploits with the triumph of the cuban Révolution and its leader Fidel Castro.
He became then member of the council of IAAF and chair cuban federation.
