Alba is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.
Geography
Located at two kilometers in the North-East of City, the commune of Alba is also localized on left bank of the Giessen, close to the small valley of Erlenbach (430 m) surrounded by the heights of the Ungersberg. The locality is vast, 1083 ha, and is near before valley, very close also of the mountainous periphery. The small valley of Erlenbach is located not far from hills relatively low (Schrann-Schiebenberg 430 m, Sohlkreuz 463 m) which widens towards north. It is also located at:- In the West, in limit with the commune of Breitenbach, by a mountainous edge beginning with the small collar from Sohl (448 m) for ganer in altitude towards north until Large Gietzig (769 m), route borrowed roughly by the old Way of the Asses which leads City to the Hohwald.
- In north, close to the collar of Bellevue (748 m) which gives on Hohwald, the edge joined the last peaks of the solid mass of the Champ of Fire which are maintained around 700 m and make function of watershed between Giessen and the Andlau.
- In the east, these peaks join themselves the top isolated and dissymmetrical of Ungersberg (901 m) which dominates the neighbouring hills from 300 to 400 meters.
Heraldic
" Of Azure with three to three rafters of argent"
Weapon S speaking created under Louis XIV. Perhaps the Azure points out the blue color of the river. As for the Rafter S, they can suggest that the Village is located in a Vallon boxed.
Etymology
Like many villages of the Valley of City, Alba (in German Erlenbach and Alsatian Erelbach) inherited the name of the Ruisseau which crosses the village: the brook of the alders. The orthography of this name underwent during the centuries only minor modifications: Erlebach in 1303 and 1341, Erlibach in 1362, Ehrlinbach in 1362, Erlebach again in 1365 and 1380, Erlenbach in 1665. In Romance dialect, " Erle" became " Al" and " Bach" moults itself in " Be" from where Alba, denomination adopted in 1919.
