Alain Kan

Alain Kan is a Chanteur French born in Paris on September 14th 1944 and disappeared in 1990. Its career extends from the beginning of the the Sixties in the middle of the the Eighties. Its course is rather atypical, owing to the fact that its works are initially commercial and without much artistic interest , then become gradually very original and creative all while being marginalized. It was a precursor in art to sing its Homosexualité.

Career

Period " Crooner"

The discography of Alain Kan begins with a 45 turns published in 1963 at " PAT" , a mark of Pathé Marconi devoted in the search of new talents. It is immediately continued during the year 1964 with the exit of three EP S 4 titles at Decca. The titles are resumptions of American successes, including two titles of Paul Anka. The orchestration is ensured by recognized musicians (Jacques Danjean then Gerard Poncet). Alain Kan does not take part in the composition of the pieces during this period. The whole of these recordings at Decca is rather homogeneous, it acts of nostalgic love songs or, variety of American influence, Twist S, pointing out the Crooner S of this time.

Period " Pop-Star"

After a few years of absence, Alain Kan reappears at the beginning of the the Seventies with one 45 turns under the name of Amédée.jr , on which one finds songs that it created with the Alcazar of Paris. He carries out many representations and works his character Androgyne to it. He meets there in particular Serge Gainsbourg and Barbara, with which he ensures musical animation.

He continues with new personal compositions in French variety, sometimes written in collaboration with Jean-Claude Vannier or his Bassiste, Laurent Thibault. Six 45 turns leave thus between 1971 and 1974 at prestigious recording companies, United Artists, then Vogue. An orientation more Pop-rock'n'roll, even Funk is adopted on the end of this period. In addition, various texts refer to the homosexuality and in particular to that of our singer.

These productions, as well as the associated concerts obtain a considerable success, by the vocal and scenic capacities of Alain Kan.

During this period, Alain Kan passes ten days in company of David Bowie, with which it writes a song. He will on several occasions refer to the star in his songs, and will take again several of his pieces later, by adapting them in French.

Period " Rocker décadent"

The first LP of Alain Kan leaves in 1975, and is dissociated, in particular by the texts, of the category of music to which they are attached, variety. The second LP Fortunately that in France, one does not take drugs , is frankly causing, by texts ironic, eccentric or relating to the drug S. the topics of the love and homosexuality often return. These albums are prohibited of antenna.

Punk period

In 1977, in full period Punk, Alain kan leave two 45 turns, under the name of Gazoline, then Gasoline. One witnesses here a radical change of style, of a not very common intensity in the careers of musician. Any report/ratio with the variety is isolated. The first, Sally , offer very cold environments punk-rock'n'roll, diffusing a very personal mark of the artist (). It precedes the two LP clearly which will follow by its sonorities, its words, and its compositions. The second, Killer Man offers punk the very traditional one, played perfectly, where Alain Kan shows a control of the aggressive song not having anything to envy Jello Biafra (). One of the titles of this second individual figure on various punk compilation, of which Killed by Death, which will present the group on a world level and will make the group mythical in the punk medium rock'n'roll.

Period Alain Z. Kan

The third album, What ever happened to Alain Z. Kan , constitutes the apotheosis of this original artist. It is again prohibited antenna by the presence of extracts of speech hitleriens in a piece depicting a dark and ridiculous world where Hitler is still there. Following consecutive ramming with prohibition, this LP quickly becomes untraceable. It was however republished in February 2007 in the box 3 CD published at Dreyfus. It comprises poetic texts in the line of the large users of Stupéfiant S, in a cold and enigmatic, sometimes squeaking and related environment with punk, but always Rock “roll. The name of Alain Z. Kan from now on is associated with the one of the most original singers French, and especially subversive and provocative. The texts show a perfect control of the writing for the song, and the theatrical organization. It appears there a resumption of Suffragette city of David Bowie, with words of Alain Kan, who will contribute has to make of this disc a album-worship.

In 1980, it composes a few pieces for the singer Christophe, of which " Maliciously rock' roll" and " Not considering, not pris" .

The last album " Perfumes of nuit" , appeared at New Pink, remains an interesting work, in which take part of large musicians, such Laurent Sinclair and Plume , beater of Damon Edge. It is about a unit which can evoke the industrial, and difficult Musique of approach by a particularly aggressive sound.

Biography (outline)

Alain Kan grows in a family made up of his mother, his father-in-law, and the girl of this one, Veronique. Besides he forever known his father (he says it in the Charter , piece which is reproduced on What ever… ). He learns the song during three years before making his first 45 turns. He becomes the brother-in-law of Christophe when this one marries Veronique.

He disappears in spring 1990. The last witnesses of its presence say to have seen it taking the subway. A call was made by its family, in vain, during the television program Perdu of sight.
