Al Ramsay (painter)
Al Ramsay (1713-1784), wire of Al Ramsay is the principal one representing generation of English portraitists which prepares the traditional time of Joshua Reynolds and of Gainsborough. He studies successively in London, in Rome, in Naples with Francesco Solimena. He returned then to England where he exerted his talents until his death. One amongst other things owes him the Portrait of the philosopher David Hume and that of Jean-Jacques Rousseau as well as royal portraits.
