Akim

Akim is undoubtedly one of the series published in Small size most popular. It indeed holds the record of longevity with thirty years of semi-monthly publication at Aventures & Voyages, which represents a total of 756 numbers.

Akim is one of many the clones of Tarzan. It is characterized by its astonishing longevity like by imagination unslung from its scenario writer (Roberto Renzi) borrowing sometimes from the iconography from successful films such as Star Wars. So in the first episodes, the draftsman Augusto Pedrazza appears rather awkward, his style will refine himself to acquire a flexibility which will be a little its trademark. Without equalizing the largest artists of the 9th art because it was indeed to leave 50 pages every fifteen days, which does not leave too much time for touching up.

Characters

Akim : (alias Jim Rank ) is the son of the consul (and count) British (Frederick Rank) of Calcutta. All the family returns to Europe when their boat makes shipwreck. The mother and her son fail on a African beach. Little time afterwards, it is devoured by a panther. Jim is adopted by a gorilla which looks after it and nourishes it. He learns the animal language and becomes their “king”. He marries Rita and adopts, in his turn, Jim which becomes like their son.

Akim

756 numbers of September 1958 in February 1991, semi-monthly over almost all the duration of publication. Each number of the booklet proposed an episode of the hero éponyme a length oscillating between 50 & 60 pages. Monthly magazine of N°1 in N°22, then semi-monthly until the end. Starting from N°669, the episodes of Akim are of the republications in the order of episodes 265 and following. Before that, N°665 and 666 had taken again the episode of N°15 Bengali who were not Pedrazza.

Akim Color

133 numbers of December 1967 in February 1979. Republication in average format and colors of the adventures of our hero (begun again episodes ranging between the 1 and 212). One will note in additional series, the very interesting English bands the “ Dynastie of Turville ” and “ the Small Men of Space ”.

Bengali

129 numbers of July 1959 in November 1988. Republication of black and white small size. Originally entitled: “Akim Except Series”, this review was initially quarterly before passing two-monthly. It should be noted that an anonymous and not very talented draftsman drew the adventures of Akim of N°8 in N°16. In N°7, Akim is replaced by Rudy which is another clone of Tarzan.

120 numbers of April 1994 in March 2004. Republication of the first episodes in the chronological order (except some omissions). To note a historical article on the old reviews of the editor starting from N°87.

Publication

In Italy, Akim is appeared of 1950 to 1967 then of 1976 to 1983.

Akim also knew a republication of April 1994 in March 2004 the time of 120 numbers at the monthly rate/rhythm.

Since October 2005, Akim returned of second part of Capt' Ain Swing 2nd series (n°138).
