Akhtouba
The River Akhtouba (in Russian: Ахтуба) is a Défluent of the the Volga, of which it separates upstream from the town of Volgograd, and moves towards the delta of the Volga and the Caspian Sea. Water of Akhtouba was blocked by the Barrage of the hydroelectric station of the Volga. They run out now from the Volga thanks to a 6,5 km length artificial channel, whose starting point is under the stopping. Akhtouba is 537 km length, its average flow is of 153 m ³ /s.
Akhtouba sprinkles the following cities: Voljski (at the beginning of the river), Leninsk, Znamensk, Aktioubinsk, Kharabali (with less than 5 km of the river). The capital of the Horde of Gold, Saraï, was most probably on Akhtouba, close to Kharabali.
The area between the Volga and Akhtouba is known like the Volga-Akhtouba plain, which is one of the first market-gardening areas of Russia. It is particularly famous for its Pastèque S.
