Ahmed Qorei

Ahmed Ali Mohammed Qorei (or Qorei ; أحمدعليمحمدقريع), known under its name of war Abou Alaa (أبوعلاء), was born in 1937 with Abu Dis and occupied by twice the function of Palestinian Prime Minister, under the presidency of Yasser Arafat of October 2003 to the November 11th 2004 then of Mahmoud Abbas of the January 15th 2005 with the February 19th 2006. It was also in charge of Safety within the Palestinian Autorité.

Life and political commitment

It is born with Abu Dis (beside Jerusalem) the March 26th 1937 from a relatively easy family. It joined in 1968 the Fatah, largest of the political organizations and military constituting the Liberation organization of Palestine (PLO). As a banker at the Arab Bank, he becomes director of the branch of the overseas investments of the PLO in the Années 1970 and managing director of the economic branch of the PLO, contributing to make PLO one of the most important employers of the Lebanon with the Samed foundation which will become an industrial empire with tens of factories and service companies throughout the world. He follows Yasser Arafat to Tunis in 1982, following the departure forced of the PLO of Lebanon. He is elected at the central committee of Fatah in August 1989.

He was the chief negotiator of the Accords of Oslo as a member of the central committee. He occupies various stations in the first cabinets of the Palestinian Authority of which those of Minister for the economy and the trade and of Minister of Industry. He is also responsible for a development plan of the Palestinian territories subjected to the the World Bank in 1993. He also founds in 1993 the Palestinian Economic council for the development and rebuilding (PECDAR) to help with the collection of the international gifts. In 1996, he is elected with the Palestinian Legislative council.

Prime Minister

At the time of its first mandate, it replaces at this station Mahmoud Abbas outgoing during the presidency of Yasser Arafat.

At the time of the presidency of Mahmoud Abbas, Qorei has formed a new cabinet the February 24th 2005, after many revisions requested under the pressure by leaders of the Fatah.

The January 26th 2006, the shortly after the Palestinian legislative elections of 2006, it declares “It is necessary to respect the choice of the people. The party which obtained the majority must form the government ”, then resigns of its post of Prime Minister, announcing the success of the islamist movement Hamas in this poll.
