Ahmadou Tall
Ahmadou Tall, died in the province of Sokoto, Nigeria in 1898) is a sovereign toucoulor. Wire of the chief Toucouleur Oumar Tall, it was maintained, after the death of his father (1864), with Ségou, on the Niger. In 1879/1880, it retained during nearly one year captive the mission ordered by Gallieni, which could not obtain from him a treaty recognizing French protectorate. After having maintained some peaceful time of the relationship with the France, towards 1887/1888, it took again its raids, but was driven out of Ségou by the colonel Archinard (1891). It took refuge then with the Macina, which was also conquered by the French (1893), and at that time ceased playing a part, in spite of its alliance with Samory.
