Ahmad Tejan Kabbah

Ahmad Tejan Kabbah (born the February 16th 1932) is president of the Sierra Leone of 1996 with 1997 and of 1998 with 2007. He is the chief of the political party Parti the people of Sierra Leone (SLPP).

Biography

He is civil servant within the Programme of the United Nations for the development (UNDP) until his return in Sierra Leone in 1992.

He is elected president of the republic the March 15th 1996 with 59,5% of the voices. It forms an multi-ethnic cabinet and multi-parties. He promises peace negotiations with the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), person in charge of the civil war which reigns there since March 1991.

The May 25th 1997, it is constrained with the exile in Guinea-Bissau following the coup d'etat of Johnny Paul Koroma, leader of the AFRC (for Armed Forces Revolutionary Council , Revolutionary Conseil of the Armed forces), a group of former members of the army of Sierra Leone. Thanks to the military intervention of ECOMOG, it turns over to the presidency the March 10th 1998.

With its government, it signs the November 10th 2000, in the town of Abuja to the Nigeria, a cease-fire with the RUF.

The May 14th 2002, at the time of the general elections, it is re-elected president with 70,6% of the voices, in front of Ernest Bai Koroma of the All People' S Congress and Johnny Paul Koroma.
