Acidophile
-
1. Says itself of a cellular component which has an affinity for the acid dyes.
-
2. The organizations acidophiles can survive and multiply in acid environments (low pH).
The fish are not found with pH lower than 4, the plants and the insects with pH lower than 2-3. Some Eucaryote S unicellular can live with pH lower than 1 like the red alga Cyanidium caldarium , of mushrooms like Acontium cylatium , Cephalosporium sp. and Trichosporon cerebriae . Species of Archaea are the most extreme acidophiles. The Sulfolobus have an optimal pH near to 2. Picrophilus oshimae and Picrophilus torridus is isolated from Japanese ground (sulfur spring) and has an optimal pH with 0,7. Ferroplasma acidarmanus can grow with pH 0. Cyanobactérie S, known as blue algas, can colonize acid media (pH of 0) like the acid lakes of the Volcans.
The majority of the micro-organisms acidophiles live in environments containing of sulfur or its compounds like geothermic environments, hot sources containing of sulfur.
The internal pH of the micro-organisms acidophiles was measured between 5 and 7. The pH of the Cytoplasme is maintained thanks to transmembrane pumps.
