Academy of the English Rug
The Académie of the English Rug decrees each year a price of “civic unworthiness” to a member of the French elites who was characterized by his eagerness to promote the domination of the English in France and in the European institutions with the detriment of the French language.
Organization, objective and activities
Among the members of this academy appear in particular: Angelo Rinaldi of the French Academy, Christine Clerc, Anne Cublier, Paul-Marie Knives, Claude Duneton and Dominique Noguez. She is chaired by Philippe of Saint-Robert, president of Association for the safeguard and the expansion of the French language.
This price was created in 1999 by four association S of defense and promotion of the French language:
- Future of the French language,
- Association for the safeguard and the expansion of the French language (ASSELAF) which publishes the excellent review Lettre (S) ,
- Défense of the French language (DLF),
- Droit To include/understand (DDC).
According to the Academy of the English Rug, this price “distinguishes in particular the deserters from the French language who add to their linguistic antisocial behavior a weak tender with the mondialized financial powers, persons in charge of the lowering of the national identities, democracy and social systems”.
According to this definition, this price is not a demonstration of Chauvinisme but a demonstration of promotion of the French language in countervailing power to the promotion of the English language where the French language could be considered to be legitimate and of respect of cultural diversity, in particular within the European Union, vis-a-vis the “single” culture of Anglo-Saxon origin “”.
Since 2001, was instituted a “special price of the jury” which distinguishes the personalities from the Nomenklatura European or international which collaborates actively in the propagation of the English language in the European or international institutions.
Prizes winner of the price of the English rug
- 1999 : Louis Schweitzer, chairman of Renault, to have imposed the use of Anglo-American in the minutes of the meetings of direction of its company (right in front of Claude Allègre, selected to have declared with La Rochelle, the August 30th 1997, “the French must cease regarding English as a foreign language”).
- 2000 : Alain Richard, Minister for Defense, to have obliged the French soldiers to speak English within the European Body whereas no anglophone nation forms part of it.
- 2001 : Jean-Marie Messier, chairman of Vivendi Universal, to have systematically supported English like language of communication in its Undertaken S.
- 2002: Jean-Marie Colombani, director of the publication of the World which publishes without the least reciprocity, and other than any other language, a weekly supplement in English drawn from the NewYork Times .
- 2003 : the Group HEC, whose managing director, Bernard Ramanantsoa, declared in December 2002: “To say that French is an international language of communication like English ready to smile today”.
- 2004 : Claude Thélot, president of the Commission of the national debate on the future of the school, to have regarded “English of international communication” as a fundamental Teaching, with equal of the French language, and to have recommended its Training by the diffusion of American serials in VO on the chains of French television.
- 2005 : France Telecom, telephone operator chaired by Didier Lombard, for the installation of services and products to the English denominations (“Talk Business, Live-Zoom, Family Talk… ”), indicated by eight vote against four for Yves Daudigny, president of the general advice of the Aisne for its English publicity campaign “Aisne, it' S Open! ”.
- 2006 : The Constitutional council for “his many failures in article 2 of the constitution which lays out that the language of the Republic is French” and “to have declared conforms to the constitution the protocol of London on the patents, thus allowing a text in English language or allemande to have a legal effect in France. ”
- 2007: Christine Lagarde, Minister for the Economy, to have communicated with its services in English language.
Prizes winner of the special price of the jury on a purely foreign basis

2001 : The company Lego, manufacturer Danish of Toy S for children, which presents its products in France and in the world only in English under the expressions “ explores being me ”, “ explores together ”, “ explores logic ” and “ explores imagination ”
- 2002: Romano Prodi, president of the European commission for the business of English labelling of the food products, and the imposition of English like single language of negotiation for European widening.
- 2003 : Pascal Lamy, elected for its systematic use of English in his functions of European Commissioner, with the contempt of the community rules.
- 2004 : Jean-Claude Trichet, president of the European Central bank, elected to have presented in English the policy of the establishment in front of the the European Parliament of Strasbourg and to have declared at the time of its taking of “ I amndt not has Frenchman ”.
- 2005 : Josep Borrell, president of the European Parliament, to have favoured English at a session of the parliamentary assembly the Euro-Mediterranean which it had just governed Rabat with the Morocco without envisaging the translation of the working papers.
- 2006 : Ernest-Antoine Seilliere, president of the Union of industries of the European Community, to have made an English speech with the European Council with Brussels in March 2006.
- 2007 : The police force of Geneva, to have diffused a publicity entitled United Organizes Geneva off.
