Abel Servien
Abel Servien (Biviers, November 1st 1593 - Meudon, February 17th 1659), marquis of Sanded and Boisdauphin, count of the Rock of Sapwoods, is a statesman and diplomatic French, uncle of Hugues de Lionne.
Born with the castle from Biviers says Serviantin close to Grenoble, Abel is the son of Antoine Servien, lord of Biviers and honorary adviser to the Parlement of Grenoble.
Public prosecutor at the Parliament of Grenoble in 1616, it becomes to advise of State under Richelieu, family friend, who names it Maître requests in 1624. He assists a few years later with the first meeting between Richelieu and Mazarin with Lyon.
In 1630, he is first president with the Parlement of Bordeaux, Secretary of State to the War, then ambassador extraordinary in Savoy for the Traité of Cherasco.
He is elected member of the French Academy in 1634, but he published little, leaving only diplomatic harangues, letters and writings.
Fallen in disgrace at Richelieu which suspects it of having perceived bribes, it is exiled with Sablé close to the Mans in 1636.
In 1643, recalled by Mazarin, it is Plénipotentiaire and ambassador with Münster with the Count d' Avaux to negotiate the Traités of Westphalia, from which he will be the chief negotiator. Minister of state and Minister of Justice in 1 648, it remains faithful to the king during the sling. Become Superintendent of Finances of the Cardinal Mazarin in 1653, it piles up a considerable fortune and is appreciated neither of the people nor of the court. In 1654, it buys with the duke of Own way the Château of Meudon in which it makes do great work of embellishment by Louis Vau; with its death, in 1659, his/her Louis-François son inherits it then yields it to Louvois in 1679.
It had three children:
- Augustin (? - October 7th, 1716), more known under the name of Abbot Servien
- Louis-François Servien, marquis de Sablé
- Marie-Antoinette (? - 1702), duchess of Sully
He died in his castle of Meudon on February 17th, 1659. Charles Cotin made his funeral praise.
