Abel Hermant

Abel Hermant , born with Paris, the February 3rd 1862 and dead the September 29th 1950, is a writer French.

Biography

Laid off in letters, it was accepted major with the National university in 1880, which it was to leave one year to be devoted later to the literature. Its first work published was a volume of worms, the Contempts (1883). After several novels of youth, it was directed towards an ironic analysis of manners of the Belle Time and was in its time success.

Abel Hermant was elected with the French Academy on June 30th 1927, succeeding Rene Boylesve.

He was condemned on December 15th 1945 for facts of Collaboration and was excluded from the Academy. Its armchair, like that of Abel Bonnard (and contrary to those of Philippe Pétain and Charles Maurras), was equipped with alive sound.

Pardoned and released in 1948, Abel Hermant tried to be justified on its control during the Occupation in the Thirteenth Book .

One reports about it the word of Robert de Montesquiou: “The most charming writer, it is Abel with the wood of Hermant”, and the gibe shared with Abel Bonnard, his colleague of the French Academy, which one called “the two beautiful ones”.
