Abbey of Romainmôtier
The abbey Saint-Pierre-and-Saint-Paul is located in the Commune Switzerland of Romainmôtier, in the Canton of Vaud. It is about the oldest building of Romance style of Suisse.
History
The construction of the current Abbatiale starts at the 11th century, on the foundations of the buildings of the 7th century and the 8th century. It was formerly accompanied by a Monastère clunisien, destroyed at the time of the Réforme in 1536, and of which there remain only some buildings.
In fact monks of this Abbaye founded Vallorbe, in the current of the 12th century. At the time of the annexation of the Country of Vaud by Bern in 1536 and the diffusion of the Reform which follows, the monks leave the Abbaye, which from now on is devoted to the Culte protesting. The Cloister and of many buildings of the Couvent then are destroyed and the others assigned to new tasks. At the time of the independence of the Canton of Vaud in 1803, this one becomes owner of the buildings, which are left partly with the abandonment. It is necessary to await the beginning of the 20th century so that Albert Naef, cantonal archeologist , makes proceed to a first restoration.
