Abbas Bonfoh

El-Hadj Abbas Bonfoh (1948, Kabou -) is a politician Togo alluvium, president by interim between the February 25th and the May 4th 2005. Bonfoh is President-in-Office of the Togolese National Assembly. Bonfoh is the first president Musulman of Togo.

Bonfoh is elected appointed in 1999 and reaches the vice-presidency of the National Assembly in 2002, the president being Fambaré Ouattara Natchaba.

With died of Etienne Éyadema the February 5th 2005, Natchaba must constitutionally become president of Togo. Faure Gnassingbé, a son of the former president, is named president by the chief of Staff of the Togolese armed forces. Natchaba returns precipitately from a voyage to Europe but its plane is diverted towards the Benign neighbor. The borders with Togo being closed, Natchaba cannot take advantage of its legitimate rights. The National Assembly elects Faure Gnassingbé at the position of president of the Parliament to restore a pretense of consitutionnelle legitimacy.

Under the pressure of the CEDEAO, European Union, African Union and UNO, Faure Eyadema resigns of its position of president of the National Assembly the February 25th 2005. Bonfoh becomes president of the Parliament then (and consequently president by interim of Togo). It keeps the position of president by interim until the presidential election of the April 24th 2005. After the results of presidential announced by CENI , Faure Gnassingbe takes again its place of president the May 4th. Bonfoh becomes again then president of the Parliament.

Bonfoh is member of the Rassemblement of the Togolese people ( RPT ), the party in power.
