• February 2nd: Otton Large the is made crown emperor by the pope Jean XII in Rome, beginning of the Germanic Roman Empire (term appeared at the 15th century). It takes the same title as Charlemagne: “ majestic Emperor ”.
• February 13rd: Otton publishes a privilege which places papacy under its supervision and which recognizes the donations of Pip and Charlemagne. Beginning of the period of control of the election of the popes by Otton I {{er}} (fine in 967). No pope can be devoted if it did not lend before oath to the emperor.

• Beginning of the reign of Mieszko Ier, prince de Pologne (fine in 992).

He revolts, seizes Ghaznî, in Afghanistan and makes of it the capital of the dynasty Ghaznévide, first dynasty Turkish in Iranian country (fine in 1186).

• Nicéphore Phocas and Leon Phocas conducts campaign in Cilicie and Syria. Nicéphore takes Alep, whose emir recognizes himself vassal of Byzance.
