In central Asia, the Turk Alptegîn (death in 963) is made independent of the Samanides and founds the dynasty of the Ghaznévides. Former captain of the guards of the emirs Samanides of Bukhara and Samarkand, governor of the Khorasan, it refuses to let himself relieve (955). He revolts, seizes Ghaznî, in Afghanistan and makes of it the capital of the dynasty Ghaznévide, first dynasty Turkish in Iranian country (fine in 1186).
Nicéphore Phocas and Leon Phocas conducts campaign in Cilicie and Syria. Nicéphore takes Alep, whose emir recognizes himself vassal of Byzance.
