Under the instigation of the Yemeni Abu abd-Allah, the tribes Berbères Chiite S Kutama put an end to in Ifriqiya the domination aghlabide faithful to Baghdad. The army of Ziyadat Allah III is crushed and the Chiites enter to Kairouan. Tahert, Holy City of the Kharidjisme is destroyed. Its population takes refuge in the oases of the Mzab (Ghardaïa, Guerrara and Sedrata). The Fatimide Ubayd Allah Al-Mahdi, saying descendant of `Ali and the Prophet by his daughter Fatima, held in the kingdom kharidjite of Sijilmassa, is released by Abu abd-Allah. It enters triumphing Raqqaba meadows over Kairouan and proclaims Imam and Caliph (December).

the Fatimides have as a claim to cut down the Omeyyades Cordoue, the Abbassides of Baghdad and the emperors of Constantinople, the Ifriqiya not being that a base of preparation to their company. But they run up against the hostility of the fuqahâ' of Kairouan, defenders of the sunnism mâlikite, and at a whole Berber part of the world.

the Fatimides contribute to develop the Trans-Saharan relations with the Niger and the Senegal.

September 11th (or 910): foundation of the Abbey of Cluny by Guillaume the Piles, duke of Aquitanian. Bernon is named abbot. The abbey depends on Saint-Pierre of Rome, which withdraws it from any laic interference. Bernon obtains the free election of the abbot by the monks and the suppression of the jurisdiction of ordinary, i.e. of the bishop of Mâcon. Cluny saw its privileges of exemption confirmed by the pope Jean XIX (1025).
