  • February 12th: Charles III the Large, the first Carolingian emperor Germanic is crowned by the pope (fine of reign in 887).

  • the Viking S plunder the Abbaye S of Saint-Valery and Saint-Riquier and go up the Somme until Amiens. They are beaten the August 3rd with the Bataille of Saucourt-in-Vimeu by Louis III and Carloman. 8000 Vikings are killed in this battle.

  • the Viking S attack the Flanders and install their camp of winter to Esloo, close to Maëstricht. Charles the Large one gathers considerable forces to besiege the city, but at the time to attack, he prefers to pay a tribute of 2800 pounds money so that the Danes of Godfred, Sigfred and Vurm (Ormr) leave the area (882).
