Worsen Byzantine
- March 4th: The Patriarche of Constantinople Jean Morocharzianos is deposited and replaced by the sicilian monk Methodios.
- March 11th: The empress Théodora convenes a council which restores the worship of the images in the Byzantine Empire and persecutes the heretics. The subordination of the Church to the emperor ceases.
- the payment of 843 is actually a compromise: the council specifies that the icons are not adored for themselves but that it is the respect due to the saint character that they represent which appears by their intermediary. The orthodoxe religion found its balance.
- In Minor Asia, Karbeas creates a state enemy Paulicien of Byzance with Tefrik for capital.
