The German cartridge of 7,92 mm Kurz was conceived by the Polte company of Magdeburg within the framework of the program of automatic weapon with short range going to lead to the concept of the Fusil of attack. The cartridges of the time are too powerful for the real use on the battle field. The news cartridge thus has a reduced propelling load of half. Its final form appears in 1941. The first operational weapon to use it is MP 43 (first name given to the Sturmgewehr 44). After 1945, it was produced in GDR (steel case), in Argentine and Spain (brass case).
At the time of the Second world war, Soviet will recover specimens of them, and will be inspired some to develop the cartridge 7,62 X 39. This cartridge will be brought into service in 1943.
