447 railcar
The good performances obtained by the series 446 push the Renfe to be placed from new orders of this type of material. But meanwhile, technology evolved/moved. So outside, the 447 are identical to the 446 (only the color of the letter which follows the serial number, white for the 446, yellow for the 447, makes it possible to differentiate them), they differ from it completely by their electric parts.
Design
The study of series 447 starts in 1991. The future railcars being intended for the suburban lines of Barcelona and Valence, where the distance between stations is from 2 to 4 kilometers, it is decided to increase their maximum speed compared to the 446 while increasing it to 120 kilometers/hour and to finally equip them with better capacities of acceleration thanks to the use of asynchronous polyphase motors at the point for the 3000 volts.Les 447 is built in four batches, by CIF and Alstom for the mechanical parts, Siemens and ABB for the electric parts.
- the first batch including/understanding the prototype and 70 units is manufactured in 1993
- the second batch of 46 units comprises more sitted places distributed according to more traditional provisions. It is delivered in 1995 and 1996
- the third batch of 20 units is delivered in 1998 and 1999
- the fourth batch of 46 units is delivered of 1999 to 2001
Service
The 447 carry out their first business services in the area of Valence in February 1993, then on Barcelona in April. Thereafter, they essaiement also on the suburbs of Madrid
