440R railcar

After delivery of the series 446, 447, 450 and 451, the Renfe considers the rebuilding of the major part of the series 440. This one will relate to a total of 160 units, including 104 intended for the network of suburbs (99 units tri-cases and 5 units Bi-cases) and 56 intended for the regional services which will be renumbered in the series 470

Design

All the oars see two from their three WC removed. Only that of the intermediate trailer subsite in a modernized form. It is from now on accessible to the people with reduced mobility. The van part is removed. The seats of origin all are replaced by the new unified model of suburbs, out of hard plastic of gray color, which makes it possible to increase the capacity. The most outstanding innovation is the new frontal shield, which changes the aspect of the machine completely.

Service

The 5 units Bi-cases are exclusively used on the line Ripoll - Puigcerda. The complete delivery of the 447 makes it possible to assign the rebuilt 440 to the service CIVIS , a regional service of suburbs accelerated with few stops intermediary (an equivalent of old semi-direct) which is a great success near the customers because of her comfort and its speed. A first unit, the 440-137, is transferred with the park regional and renumbered in series 470 in 2003. 14 others follow in January 2005.
