The 3rd stage of the Tour de France 2007 was held the July 10th. The course of 236,5 kilometers connects Waregem to Compiegne. It is about the longest stage of the Tour this year.

Profile of the stage

This third stage offers to the runners a rather flat course between Waregem in Belgium and Compiegne. It includes/understands 3 intermediate sprints allowing of glaner allowances: to Turned (33,5 km), Fountain-with-Wood (104,5 km) and Achery (167,5 km). Only difficulty of the course, a coast classified in 4th category, that of Blérancourt (202,5 km).

This long stage but without major difficulty, is rather intended to the wheelers or to the sprinters. In this logic, two French, Matthieu Ladagnous of the Frenchwoman of the Plays and Nicolas Vogondy of Agritubel try an escaped as of the 6th kilometer and manage to extirpate group. From sixty kilometers of the arrival the French Stephan Trough of the Cofidis and the Belgian Frederik Willems of Liquigas escape in their turn from the group to the continuation from the two runners always at the head from race. They manage to join them at the end of ten kilometers. At the top of the coast of Blérancourt, classified in 4th category, Stephan Augé passes at the head and collects 3 points with the classification of mountain, which gives him the Maillot with pea. With 22 kilometers of the arrival the group of head had 2 ' 48" in advance on the group taken along by the teams of Quick Step-Innergetic and Lampre.

The decreasing variation, the four men are joined by the group at the time of the last hectometers, not managing to organize itself to keep the victory in their center. The final one is played with the Yellow jersey Fabian Cancellara which, as strapping men, manages to pass the four escaped ones and on the matter to impose on the sprint in front of the specialists Erik Zabel (arrived second) and Danilo Napolitano (third). After its victory with the Prolog, the Swiss Fabian Cancellara, with its new victory with old, consolidates its place of leader. He profits, thanks to the points of allowances, 33 seconds in advance on the second of the Turn Andreas Klöden.
