March 1st: Dioclétien names two Césars , Galère and Constance Chlorinates, to help both Auguste S to direct the Empire. It is the first Tétrarchie.
- the empire is divided into four parts: Maximien receives the Italy, the Sicily and the Africa; Constance Chlorinates the Gaulle, the Spain and the Brittany; Dioclétien the Thrace, the Asia, the Egypt; Galère the Illyricum, provinces Danubian and the Achaïe. The four imperial residences are established near the borders: Milan, Trier, Nicomédie, Sirmium.
- Constance Chlorinates pacifies the Brittany and goes to Autun.
- Constance Chlorinates pack the Francs and installs as colonists of many barbarians in the North of the Gaulle.
- Embellishment of Trier which becomes imperial city. The city extends on 285 ha and account 80 000 inhabitants.
- Beginning of the Persian reign of Narses in (fine in 302).
- With died of Bahram II, his/her son Bahram III succeeds to him. But at the end of 4 months, Narses détrône its great nephew Bahram III. It restores the unit of the empire and receives the homage of vassal and dignitaries.
- Narses, the new king sassanide, turns over to a policy anti Roman E.
