262 dB 1

The 262 dB 1 is a Diesel loco electric (double articulated) of type 2Co2+2Co2 for trains speed, built in France in 1937.

Two engines having the same provision of different axles but in their mechanical parts were brought into service at this date by the Compagnie of the railroad the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranean: the 262 DA 1 built for the mechanical part by M.A.N and the 262 dB 1 by the firm Sulzer.

They were especially studied to tow between Paris and Menton and in the two directions, an express train of 450/600 tons at the block speed minimum of 100 km/h and within the framework of the schedules in force on this date.

The sobriety of their line, the elegance of their body raised by a color clear gray for the upper part and royal blue for the case, were very noticed at the time. They was moreover the first two machines diesel of road studied for long courses in France. Electrical equipment, the case and the frame came from the Compagnie of Fives-Lille and the Compagnie of the Forging mills and Aciéries of the Navy and of Homécourt, contractors general for construction.
