24 hours of Mans 2007

The 75e edition of the 24 Hours of Mans was held the 16 and June 17th 2007 on the Circuit of the Sarthe. Whereas the departure of the race is traditionally given to 4 p.m., that of the edition 2007 was given to 3 p.m. because of the second turn of the French legislative elections. They are 55 crews which took part in the race where the Peugeot 908 n°8 of the Portuguese Lamy and of the French Sarrazin and Bourdais sprang at the head after having carried out the pole position at the time of the qualifications. But on final and for the fourth consecutive year, the German manufacturer Audi (with its R10 led by the German pilots Werner and Biela and the Italian Pirro) asserts in front of Peugeot 908 n°8 and n°16 conveys it French stable Pescarolo.

Marked by many bounces and climatic conditions changeantes and wet, the race attracted more than 250.000 spectators is 15.000 of more than the previous year. One can explain this record of multitude by the official return of the French manufacturer Peugeot which hopes to dispute the outrageuse domination of the Audi since the year 2000 (7 victories at the time of the 8 last editions). In addition, this new 24 hour old edition is marked by the use by the diesel engine stables of point of S. Indeed, after Audi in 2006, Peugeot takes up the challenge by registering its return in the use of the diesel for its news 908.

1st meeting

Wednesday, June 13, 2007: 19:00 - 21h15 then? - midnight.
At the conclusion of this first qualificative meeting, the Peugeot 908 n°8 produces the best stopwatch at only three minutes of the end of the meeting. It precedes the Audi R10 n°2 and second Peugeot 908.

2nd meeting

Thursday, June 14, 2007: 19:30 - 21h30 then 22:00 - midnight .

Disturbed by the rain, the second meeting of the qualifications does not modify of anything the established order the day before at the time of the first meeting. Nevertheless, the two manufacturers Audi and Peugeot could be measured in preparation for the race. Thus, under wet climatic conditions, it is the Audi R10 n°2 which carries out the best time of this meeting (4 ' 01" 257) in front of the n°3 (4 ' 01" 629). First Peugeot (n°8) finishes third in the same second (4 ' 01" 928) but will at the head spring at the time of the race thanks to the stopwatch carried out the day before.

In the other categories, the hierarchy was not upset either. In LMP2, the car n°33 of the stable Barazi Epsilon finished at the head in its category at this meeting as at the time of the first. In GT1, the Aston Martin n°008 of the French team Larbre Compétition will leave at the head in its category after having carried out best time in the two meetings. Lastly, in GT2, the car n°87 of the TEAM Scuderia Scotland produces also best the stopwatch in the two meetings and will thus spring at the head in its category.
