January
Thursday the 1st er January - Telecom postal and telecommunications authorities becomes Swisscom following the liberalization of the market of telecommunications.
Wednesday January 7th - a road show, devoted to the 150e birthday of the Federal state and recalling one century and half of democracy in Switzerland, is inaugurated with Delémont. It will move in 40 localities until the end of November.

Sunday the 1st er March - Cantonal elections in the Canton of Vaud. Three candidates are elected at the end of the 1st ballot: Charles Favre (PRD), Claude Ruey (PLS) and Jacqueline Maurer-Mayor ((PRD).
Thursday March 12th - Jean-Christmas Rey leaves the head office of the Poste.
Sunday March 15th - Cantonal elections in the Canton of Vaud. At the conclusion of the second round of poll, the cantonal Government is supplemented by Charles-Louis Rochat ((PLS), Jean-Claude Mermoud (UDC), Philippe Biéler (LesVerts) and Francine Jeanprêtre (PS).
- Cantonal elections with Glaris. The seven seats of the Government will be occupied by Marianne Dürst (PRD), Robert Marti (UDC), Jakob Kamm (PS), Willy Kamm (PRD), Rudolf Gisler (PDC), Pankraz Freitag (PRD) and Christoph Stüssi (UDC).
- Cantonal elections with Nidwald. The seven seats of the Government will be occupied Paul Niederberger (PDC), Meinrad Hoffmann (PDC), Ferdinand Keiser (PDC), Viktor Furrer (PDC), Werner Keller (PRD), Beat Fuchs (PRD) and Leo Odermatt (Nidwald democratic).
- Cantonal elections in the Grison . Only one candidate is elected at the end of the 1st turn. It is about Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf (UDC), girl of the former federal adviser Leon Schlumpf.
Wednesday March 18th - First number of the daily newspaper Time , resulting from fusion enters the Nouveau Daily newspaper and the Journal of Geneva and Gazette of Lausanne .
Friday March 27th - Inauguration of the line of tram 16, with Geneva, which connects the customs of Moillesulaz to the station of Cornavin,

Monday the 1st er April - Put in circulation of the new ticket of 1000 francs, decorated portrait of Jacob Burckhardt.
Sunday April 5th - Cantonal elections in the Grison . The four elected officials with the Government at the conclusion of the second round are Claudio Lardi (PS), Klaus Huber (UDC), Stefan Engler (PDC) and Peter Aliesch (PRD).
Tuesday April 7th - a plane F/A-18 is crushed close to Notch-Montana. The two pilots lose the life in the accident.
Saturday April 11th - For the first time of its history, HC Zoug becomes champion of Switzerland of hockey-on-ice.
Sunday April 19th - Cantonal elections with Bern. The new government is made of Elisabeth Zölch (UDC), Mario Annoni (PRD), Hans Lauri (UDC), Dori Schaer-Born (PS), Samuel Bhend (PS), Dora Andres (PRD) and Werner Luginbühl (UDC).

Sunday May 3rd - Rhodos-External Cantonal elections with Appenzell. Five members of the government are elected with the first turn: Werner Niederer (PS), Alice Scherrer (PRD), Marianne Kleiner (PRD), Gebi Bischof (without party) and Hans Altherr (PRD). It is the first time that the government is elected by the ballot boxes. Up to now, the advisers of State were appointed by the Landsgemeinde.
