1977 in France - 1978 - 1979 in France

• January 6th: adoption of the data-processing Law and freedoms.

• January 7th: program Blois of the majority.
• 21 and January 22nd: Gathering with Strasbourg against European legal Space.
• January 23rd: removal with Paris of the baron Empain, chairman of the Empain-Schneider group.
• January 27th: speech of Valery Giscard d'Estaing to Verdun-on-the-Doubs on the “Good choice”.
• : Foundation of the Union for the French democracy (UDF) by Jean Lecanuet, which joins together CDS, the Republican party and the Radical party valoisien.

• 16 - March 17th: Oil slick in Brittany with the shipwreck of the giant tanker Amoco Cadiz with broad of Portsall. Chartered by the company Shell, and pertaining to a ship-owner of Chicago, it transports 230  000 tons of oil coming from Saudi Arabia and Iran towards Rotterdam. 360 km of Breton coasts, with Brest to bay of Saint-Brieuc, are soiled.
