Events
- January 13rd: Aristide Briand and Louis Barthou founds the Fédération of the lefts.
- March 17th: With Paris, Henriette Caillaux assassinates Gaston Calmette, the director of the Figaro , which had carried out a smear campaign against her husband, the Minister for Finance Joseph Caillaux, who leaves his functions immediately.
- April 26th - May 10th: Victoire of the left (radicals and Socialists) to the legislative elections in France against the “madness of the armaments”
- June 9th: Alexandre Ribot president of the Council.
- June 13rd: Rene Viviani president of the Council.
- June 28th: Assassination of Sarajevo.
- July 15th:
- Vote of the Finance law founding the Income tax, prepared by Joseph Caillaux.
- Visit of the president of the French Republic Raymond Poincaré and of the president of the council Rene Viviani in Russia. Return in France the July 29th.
- July 27th: the trade unions organize demonstrations against the war.
- July 28th: Henriette Caillaux is discharged following a resounding lawsuit.
- July 31st: assassination of Jean Jaurès by Unpleasant Raoul.
- : General mobilization in France and Germany.
- August 3rd: the Germany declares the war with the France.
- August 4th: The French president Raymond Poincaré calls with the Sacred union with the room and the Senate which votes the appropriations of war unanimously.
- August 8th: The French troops enter to Mulhouse, which fall to the hands from German two days later.
- August 11th: France declares the war with the Austria-Hungary.
- 19 - August 20th: Failure of the French opening in Lorraine. Armed IIIe and IVe are folded up behind the Meuse.
- 21 - August 23rd: France loses the battle of the borders.
- August 25th: Fold of Combined on Large-Crowned Nancy. Battles of Charlerois. The Allies must be folded up.
- August 26th: Resignation of the Viviani government which forms a ministry of National defense. The Sacred union is concretized, the Socialists enter to the government (Delcassé with the foreign affairs and Millerand with the War).
- August 29th - September 2nd: The French government leaves Paris threatened by the German projection and settles with Bordeaux leaving the capital under the military government of the general Gallieni.
- August 31st: The Franco-British troops cross the Marne. The Germans enter to Senlis.
- September 4th: The German army occupies Rheims. Gallieni requisitions the Parisian taxis for the transport of the troops.
- September 6th: First Battle of the Marne , the French (Joffre) contain the German projection (6 - September 9th). The Germans (von Kluck and von Bülow) move back until the Aisne.
- October 19th:
- “Race with the sea” enters the armies German, French and British (Oct. - Nov.). The Germans seek to reach Dunkirk, Boulogne and Calais.
- Battle of Yser (fine the November 17th).
- November 15th: Fray of the Flandres. Victoire of the French Armies, British and Belgian around Ypres and of Dixmude.
- December 8th: Return of the French government to Paris.
- December 15th: IVe French Army lance the offensive in Champagne. War of Distinct (650 km), of the the North Sea to the Swiss .
Economy & company
- 41 billion gold franc of placements abroad. 4 billion only in the colonial empire. Course forced of banknotes after more than one century of monetary stability.
