  • February 16th: Foundation of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company charged to build a transcontinental railway line. Started in 1882, the connection is completed in 1885.
  • April 4th: Census. The Canada account 4  324  810 inhabitants.
    • the population of Vancouver, with the outlet of transcontinental, doubles of 1881 (50  000 inhabitants) with 1891. She will reach 390  000 inhabitants in 1911.
