Events
- January 14th: The Niel marshal presents his bill of reorganization of the army and his recruitment. Voted law it.
- In February, creation, street of the Arcade in Paris, the political club called of the “ Arcadiens ”; its members, ultra-conservatives, will oppose all liberal measurements, even those emanating from the emperor.
- March 20th: Dissolution of the French Section of the First International (lawsuit brought by the imperial government of the December 30th 1867 with the March 20th 1868).
- May 11th: Law liberalizing the press. See Great laws under the Second Empire
- May 30th: Beginning of the publication of the newspapers the Lantern by Henri Rochefort (weekly directed against the Empire), and liberal Union with Turns.
- June 6th, law authorizing the public meetings. See Great laws under the Second Empire
- In August abrogation of article 1781 of the Civil code by which the Master is believed on word.
- October 15th: Opening to the railway traffic of the Mount-Cenis in the the Alps.
- November 23rd: Invention of the Photo color by the French Louis Ducos of Hauron.
- In November, political lawsuit Baudin , which made it possible Leon Gambetta to be made known, at the time of its republican pleading .
