Africa

  • With Algiers, a Dey elected by the Ray , then by the officers of the Odjak starting from 1689, replaces the Aga .

    • the dey , in spite of an absolute power which hardly extends beyond the Dar be-Soltan, is not with the shelter of the coups d'etat and the palace revolutions. Between 1671 and 1830, approximately a dey on two seizes the power with the favor of a riot and after the assassination of its predecessor.
    • the administrative organization of the Régence of Algiers is intended mainly to facilitate the tax collection. The country is divided into four parts: Dar be-Soltan, territory including/understanding Algiers and its surroundings directly controlled by the dey, then three beylicats, that of the west (chief town Mascara then Oran in 1792), that of Titteri (Médéa) and that of the east (Constantine). A bey named by the dey directs these provinces. Each beylicat is subdivided in several outans managed by a caïd generally of Turkish origin. The outans include/understand several douars and tribes directed by sheiks .

  • India: Revolt of the prince of the Bundelkhand Chhatrasal against the Moghols. It establishes a kingdom independent in the Mâlwa of the east.

  • Beginning of the reign of Galdan, khan of Dzoungarie.

    • Galdan sends several times in the year of the caravans on the Chinese territories controlled by the Manchus to business ends. The emperor Qing Kangxi however prohibits the entry with the immense caravans (some counted 3000 members) to authorize only those which do not include/understand more than one hundred merchants.
