  • March 7th: Beginning of the reign of Marc Aurèle, Roman Emperor, which associate Lucius Verus with the empire, coemperor (161-169). (end in 180)
    • Marc Aurèle, Spaniard of origin like Trajan and Hadrian, has behind him neither career of soldier nor passed of administrator. Stoical, disciple of Epictète, it is however an energetic man of action. Inside, it pursues the policy of its predecessor and maintains good relationships with the Sénat. Legislator, it endeavors to make penetrate the new principles of morality and humanity, in particular in favor of the women and the slaves.
    • Marc Aurèle inherits a rather bad economic situation due to slowness of the reforms initiated under Hadrian and worsened by the threats of the Barbares and the epidemics. He tries not to increase the loads of his subjects but does not lean on the fate of poorest.
