Africa
- January 21st: Construction of the castle of Saõ Jorge to Elmina in Guinea, of which all the elements are transported of Lisbon. It confirms the Portuguese monopoly on the trade of Black Africa (Or). The Portuguese colonize the Côte of Gold (Ghana) in Africa.
- the Portuguese export more than one ton of gold per annum of Elmina. They exchange the gold of Akan against Esclave S razziés on the coasts of the gulf of Bénin. They trade with the empire of the Mali by the Gambia and buy gold, gum and the skins which they resell in the African Mediterranean against horses, fabrics and money.
