- Ibn Battuta visit the Mali and writes a report of all that it observes. It goes to the Nigeria.
- It leaves Fès for Sijilmâsa, crosses the desert with a caravan of merchants (February 18th) towards Iwâlâtân then reached Niani, capital of the Mali the June 28th. It sets out again about it the February 27th 1353 assembled on a camel. It describes hippopotamuses at the edges of the lake Débo (?), Tombouctou gains and embarks in a dugout towards Kawkaw (Gao). It goes towards Takaddâ on the territory of the Berbères Bardâma, crosses the desert (September 12th 1353) towards Kâhir and the Hoggar then regains Sijilmâsa (December 29th 1353) and Fès.
- Ibn Battuta describes Mali like a remarkably managed empire. The roads are sour, the country thrives and gold seems to run with flood.
