11th brigade parachutist

The 11th brigade parachutist (the 11th BP) is a unit of armor-plated light infantry specialized in the transport of airborne troops. She constitutes a unit of elite of the French Army.

She is ordered by a brigadier general whose staff is based near Toulouse more precisely has Balma. Its soldiers and Marsouins carry a red Béret (amaranth) except the 2nd regiment foreign parachutists who carries the green Béret of the Foreign legion.

Compositions

Approximately 8.500 men and women distributed in a Staffs and 8 Regiment S located in the safe south-west of France for the 2nd REFERENCE MARK which is with Corsica Calvi in .

  • Staff with Balma (Center of gravity of the brigade)

  • 1 {{er}} regiment of hussards parachutists (1st RHP) to Tarbes

  • 3rd regiment parachutist of marines (3rd RPIMa) to Carcassonne

  • the 11 {{E}} BP also has under its command the ''' Groupement of the Commandos Parachutists ''' (GCP): a unit of operational elite belonging to the second circle of the French Special forces.

History

The 11th BP is founded in 1999, on the basis of the 11th division parachutist ( 11th DP ), at the time of the reorganization of the armies.

In 1956 are created 10th and 25e divisions parachutists, respectively with the orders of the generals Massu and Sauvagnac. Following a coup attempt of State during the War of Algeria, two divisions dissolved and are reorganized under the name of light division of intervention. This one disappears in 1971 to form the 11th DP.
