• Süleyman Ier Shah takes Iconium (Konya) then attacks Small Arménie of Cilicie and Philarète Vahram (Brachamios) in the south of Malatya.
• December 13rd: Süleyman Ier Shah seizes Antioche defended by the Byzantine general Philarète Vahram, then one of the more big cities of the world, and is thus main almost whole Anatolia.

• Turkish Principality of the Danichmendides in Anatolia (Kayseri, Sivas, Amasya).

Worsen Byzantine

• August: Nicolas III becomes patriarch of Constantinople (fine in 1111).

• the Germanic Roman Emperor Henri IV devastates Rome and installs the Antipape Clément III which crowns it emperor.
• April 13rd: Alain IV Fergent becomes duke of Breton (end in 1112).
• May: Robert Guiscard, Normand combined Gregoire VII takes again Rome, but plunderings cause the hostility of the population. Gregoire takes refuge in the south and dies in Salerno in 1085. Apparently overcome, it has in fact successful to make papacy independent and to make apply the ecclesiastical reform partly.

• the Venetian fleet, allied of the Byzantine is overcome by Robert Guiscard.

Art & culture

• the Ingomar monk, with the abbey of Saint Méen, writes a Vita Meveni , life of Saint Méen, and a Vita Iudicaelis , life of Saint Judicaël.

• Bruno of Cologne creates a monastery in the massive of Large Chartreuse. Helped by brothers convers, the monks live in hermitages and only leave to take part in the offices and to attend the chapter joined together by the prior whom they elect. Towards 1200, 39 establishments adopted the rules of the Grande Chartreuse.
• Dedication of the Cathedral of Salerno.
