- March 25th: Beginning of the Patriarchate of Michel Cérulaire (Michael Kêroularios) with Constantinople (fine in 1058). It supports badly that Latin installed in Constantinople respects neither its rites nor its authority;
- the Petchenègues cross the the Danube;
- Beginning of a war between Kiev and Constantinople, the last (end in 1046). Iaroslav Wise the tries a forwarding against Byzance and loses its fleet;
- the general revolted Georges Maniakès is killed close to Thessalonique.

- November 21st: Henri III wife Agnes of Aquitaine;
- the Normands beat the Byzantine armies in Apulie, Italy of the South and seize the area. Byzance definitively loses the country after the disgrace of Georges Maniakès. The duchy of the Pouilles is founded by the Normands Guillaume Arm-of-Iron and Rainulf Drengot;
- the Wendes threaten the Denmark. Magnus Olavsson organizes against them a punitive forwarding during which it takes and destroys Wollin. Wendes invade the Jutland, but are overcome by Magnus with Lyrskov Hede.
