- Tarpeia was one of the Vestales (priestess dedicated to chastity) of the temple of Vesta to Rome, and his/her father was chief of the guard of Capitole. The young girl was allured by the King Sabin S named Tatius and the city delivered to him. As a punishment, it would have been buried alive at the south-western end of the Capitole, called since Roche tarpéienne.
