Europe

  • Pythagore, exiled by the tyrant Polycrate of Samos, settles with Crotona and creates a school of wisdom. It also gives to this city aristocratic laws.

  • In Italy, the town of Siris is destroyed by its neighbor Sybaris whom it competed with for the bearing in the Bruttium.

The Middle East

  • Beginning of the reign of Cambyse II, Persian king of (fine in -523).
  • Cyrus II is concealed at the time of a campaign against the Scythes. His/her son Cambyse II replaces it. After three years of fights, it makes assassinate his young brother Smerdis (or Bardiya).
    • According to Hérodote, Tomyris, queen of the Massagètes (Scythian tribe evolving/moving between the Caspienne and the sea of Aral), would have refused to marry Cyrus which made him the war, removed his/her Spargapisès son who committed suicide. It, according to a tradition, would have captured Cyrus and drowned this one in blood. According to Xénophon, it would be free death in its capital Pasargades into -530.

  • Invention with Athens of the decoration with red figure on black bottom, ensuring Athenian supremacy in the field of ceramics (Andokidès).
