Hérode Large the, king of Judaea, having overcome the Nabatéens, meets Octave with Rhodos after its victory with Actium. Octave confirms the royalty of Hérode (spring) and restores to him the area of Jericho to which he adds Gadara, Hippus, Samarie, Gaza, Anthédon, Joppé and the tower of Straton.

Hérode makes perish the last family members asmonéenne: Hyrcan II (- 30) then its wife Mariamne (-29); and his/her mother Alexandra (v. -28). The death of Mariamne, the only one of his ten wives whom he loved, marked inaccuracy by Salome, the sister of Hérode, overpowers the king of sorrow and leaves it at the edge of the madness.

the regime change in Egypt does not involve popular reactions, because the Romans nothing but do replace Ptolémées, by maintaining the language Greek and of the Greek administrators to control the country. Octave leaves only few troops in a country in peace, threatened only in the South.
